Hello friends,
It seems at this time of the year every conversation is bound to include a remark regarding the rapid passing of time. Yes, the year’s end is at hand and for me, good riddance. (Possibly more on that later). I’ll raise my glass high with an expletive, maybe two, and kiss 2022 adios!
At last year’s New Year’s Eve party, I had mentioned to a very dear guest Arnold, that given the present circumstances, I might claim to see another decade if I somehow cut back on my red wine consumption... but that rock climbing was definitely not in the future for me! Arnold imparted his wisdom regarding the Old Testament and the revelation that the natural life span of man, and I suppose women, at that time was 120 years.
Now, give that some thought. Visually, I didn’t think it evoked an appealing picture.
I realized that Darrell and I had fallen into the abyss of love and age. Now, this is not a discussion for the faint of heart. So, I asked Darrell, “could you find me attractive at ninety-five?” “Probably not” he replied, “but I would nonetheless always love you.” Darrell is good at taking the easy way out of difficult situations. He is very quick with words. I remember thinking this when we first met seventy years ago.
It’s difficult for me to dwell much on another year passing, we have had so many lovely years together. Thirty of them have been at Orchard Hill and shared with many of you. Darrell says that life is not like a box of chocolates but a like a roll of toilet paper. The closer you get to the end of the roll, the faster it goes. Now that’s pure Darrell.
See you soon. Thanksgiving has been filled for weeks but Marianne reports that New Year’s Eve has a few spots.
